12th Annual Run for Literacy

With the proceeds benefiting Arizona Classroom Literacy, runners and walkers made their way around Westgate City Center in Glendale Sunday morning.  Entrants received t-shirts, goodie bags, refreshments and books.  A raffle and silent auction was also held after race awards.  Dozens of youngsters split into three groups ran the kid's dash.

In the 5K Run Adam Hunt, 33, was overall male at 18:10 and overall female was Ashley Ohrn, 26, at 21:27.  The overall female in the 5K Walk was Emily Bosman, 24, at 20:41 and overall male was Kenneth Pritchett, 54, at 38:35.  In the 1 Mile overall male was Tre Gilbert, 12, at 7:28 and overall female was Katelyn Flesch, 10, at 10:20.

 

Enviro Run at the Track

It was the patter of many feet instead of the roar of engines that broke the morning silence at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale Saturday morning.  This was the inaugural race for environmental awareness.  The 1 Mile started off first followed 15 minutes later by the 5K.  The 5K ran the actual track coming into pit row then onto the road course and taking a final lap on the track.  Great goody bags for the runners and many valuable drawing prizes along with finisher medals.

Overall male in the 1 Mile was Brandon Malfer, 13, at 6:49, followed by female overall winner Allison Pishko, 10, at 8:14.  In the 5K overall male was Andrew Neugenbauer, 30, at 18:15 and overall female Miki Stevens, 32, at 22:15.
