Maricopa Founders Day 5K
Run/Walk

--October 15, 2006
The first annual
Maricopa 5K was held in conjunction with the annual
Founder’s Day festivities.
Maricopa has come a
long way from the small farming community of just a few
years ago. The whole area is alive with new home
construction, shopping centers, restaurants, gas stations, etc.
The 5k run was
sponsored by the local Wells Fargo bank and they did a great
job of organizing and staging the event.
|
The run began in the brand
new Pacana Park and coursed through the surrounding
neighborhood. Flat and fast.
The overall first place
finisher was Darren Hancock with a time of 18:25 and the first
woman finisher was Holly Lyons in 23:42. They both received
$50.00 merchandise certificates for their efforts.
This was the first year of
what will be an annual event which will grow with the community
over time.
